WEEKDAY MORNINGS 6AM - 10AM

Tuesday's Friend is...Penguin!
Do you remember the story of the cat that was rescued in Milford when it was frozen to the storm drain? Well…. That little girl is our Tuesday’s Friend! If you forgot the story, or didn’t read it, Click Here!
Normally we let the Tuesday’s Friend tell his or her own story, but this time we are going to let Beth, one of the many people who have been working with her, tell the story of her recovery and all the progress that has been made.
When Penguin was brought in, she didn’t move, didn’t speak, didn’t react to anything, and wasn’t eating. Within a day of her arrival she had a full blown, nasty cold. The shelter staff provided her with Sheba cat food, tuna fish, and Temptations treats…anything that we thought would get her to eat. Slowly she started eating, but was non-responsive to petting.
After about two weeks of time, she came out of her shell enough that employees thought they heard her purring. I didn’t get that personally until the 16th of January. That day I went in as I’d been doing since we got her, and started stroking her. Her butt went up in the air and she started purring as loud as I’d ever heard her! She started pressing her head against my hand urging me to pet her more and to not stop! She ate treats in front of me for the first time, and even took them from my hand. At this moment, I knew she was ready for her forever family – but it would have to be a very understanding human.
The amount of progress that Penguin has made is outstanding. But she still will have her limitations. She needs to be in a home without dogs. We would prefer she go to a home with no other pets at all. A home with no small children living there is necessary (visiting is fine because she can hide). Please understand that this is a cat that is a survivor, but she is nervous when there are changes in her life. You will probably find that she will hide the first week or so that you bring her home, just make sure she has food and water and a litter box readily available and she will most likely come out when you are asleep.
If you are interested in meeting Penguin, please come to the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle in Camden Monday 10:30-6, Wednesday through Friday 10:30 to 7, Saturday and Sunday 10:30-4. You will need to ask at the front desk to see her, as she has a home in the surgical suite and we will bring her to you. Thank you for taking a chance on this wonderful little girl.
